There is a fascinating background to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just over the dividing line from nearby Thailand, in which casino gambling is prohibited. Eight casinos are established in a relatively small area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect spot, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal capital acquired from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of controls constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; however, financial sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and despite the fact visas are allegedly needed to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is accurate of most borders.

The original Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored boat casino, contains one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 60 gaming tables. The Naga river boat is open all hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long opened. A total of one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slot machines and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and sixty six of the normal table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international vacation and hotel complex that features many amenities in addition to the casino, which has ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machines and 88 tables.
